Five-time and reigning World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz will be pulling double duty in next weekend's World of Outlaws/NLRA Late Model doubleheader at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.

The Fargo resident will be piloting Tony Stewart Racing's No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J in competition with the Outlaws as he chases his sixth WoO championship. Schatz, who currently ranks third and trails leader Daryn Pittman by 146 points, is tied with Pittman and Tim Kaeding for most wins on the tour this year with five. Schatz is a two-time winner at the 3/10-mile dirt oval winning twice - in 2008, he set quick time and then raced from 11th to win the 40-lap A-Feature, and in June of 2009, he started second and led 39 of the 40 laps - and has finished inside the top seven in all 11 WoO A-Feature events at the track. Last season, he raced from 11th to fourth in June and finished second to Sammy Swindell in August.

He'll also be driving his No. 15 Fargo Petro/Fastlane Car Wash backed dirt late model in competition at the track for the first time. Schatz, who made his debut in a dirt late model last June in Tony Stewart's charity event - The Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway - has competed twice this season in North Dakota in the late model. He won the feature event at Williston Basin Speedway on May 25 and made it two wins in two starts the following night with a thrilling last lap pass at Nodak Speedway in his hometown of Minot.

"We're excited about the opportunity to give the fans a chance to see someone compete in both classes," admitted Schatz. "The World of Outlaws race is the focus and we really need to get our STP car back to victory lane at River Cities. We've had some good runs up there, but it's been a few years since we've won one. There are so many great fans that support the racing in Grand Forks and we're going to do everything we can to win that World of Outlaws feature. Running the dirt late model has been a lot of fun and it's just something to remind me of what it's like to race for fun. It's been a big learning, curve and I know it's going to be tough up there. Those guys are really good. I'm just learning as much as I can every time I get into the car. It should be a great night of racing. I know my STP guys are really looking forward to us getting up there and having a chance to win that Sprint car feature. We'll go out and do our best."

Grand Forks, ND August 17 2012: "The Bullring" had "37" 410 Outlaw Sprint Car Drivers come to Grand Forks to compete for the $10,000 first place purse.

Sammy Swindell claims his 9th World of Outlaw victory  this year and it came to him at River Cities Speedway and claimed $10,000 in prize money.

Sammy ran a strong race and held off our North Dakota home state 4 time World of Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz who was working hard to save his tires as rubber was down on the track and he needed to save his tires.  Donny commented he likes the racy track here at River Cities Speedway.

The World of Outlaw point leader Craig Dollansky  came in 3rd and was only running on 7 cylinders since lap 2 of the 40 pap feature.  Craig has won many races at River Cities Speedway and very well could have won if his Sprint Car was firing on all 8 cylinders.

Video ~ World Record Lap time set at River Cities Speedway

Watch the World of Outlaws Salute River Cities Speedway 4 wide

The World of Outlaw Sprint Cars and the Northern Late Models are running tonight at "The Bullring" which  brings a lot of excitement and one one heck of a great show for all.  Especially when you have to consider River Cities Speedway is the "FASTEST" lap time track of all the pro dirt tracks on the planet! Can you imagine just a few years ago the track record was broken like 18 times in 1 night during World of Outlaw qualifying. (See Video in this posting).  Lap times were in the 9 second range which is World Record number 1.  River Cities Speedway is the official "Fastest" track the pros race on!  Exciting and has to be seen to believe, very hard to keep the cars on the track at those speeds and sometimes they go for one heck of a tumble... This is one show everyone has to see to believe!

Just last year during a World of Outlaw Sprint Car feature the King of Outlaws Steve Kinser and 4 time World of Outlaw Champion Donny Schatz exchanged the lead 9 times in the same race.   That was world record number 2 for the most lead changes ever in a World of Outlaw feature race and it all happened at River Cities Speedway.  That is just another reason why people call the River Cities Speedway "The Bullring"

The Bullring earned yet another World Record this year when the World of Outlaw Late Models were in town for the closest finish ever.  The difference between 1st and 2nd place was only 0.024 tenths of a second.  That earned the track World Record number 3.

Will more records be broken tonight at "The Bullring" ?  See you at the track, gates open at 5:30, see you there!
