Pederson and Snare Sweep Their Respective Divisions;
Dobmeier Still Undefeated
Prepared by: Orness Creations
Grand
Forks, ND
6/5/09
Unseasonably cold weather greeted drivers and
fans last Friday at River Cities Speedway to kickoff the month of June.
But that didn’t cool down Joey Pederson. Pederson entered the
Rydell Chevrolet Victory Lane for the second
straight week and Mark Dobmeier still is undefeated in the NOSA sprint
class. Lyon’s Auto Supply and the Kem
Shriners sponsored the nights racing activities as seventy-four teams
checked in the backgate.
To get the Premier Racing Series started for
the night there were two Street Stock heat races which were won by
Steffen Snare who started fourth and Bryce Reimer who sat on the pole
and led everyone to the checkered flag. Runner-ups in both heats were
Tyson Anderson and Rick Beier. During the feature race sponsored by
Transystems, Bryce Reimer took a wild ride down the front stretch as his
number three machine rolled a few times. Reimer started third and was
checked by the paramedics and was ok. This would reset the field for
another restart minus those cars not able to continue after the first
caution. Steffen Snare was able to race his way to the front from the
fifth starting spot and cross the North Dakota Eye Clinic finish line
ahead of ninth starting James Wall. Greg Neumann finished third as he
was chased across the line by Dan McNamee and Aaron Blacklance.
The largest division of the night was the
WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. Twenty-four drivers were split into three
heat races. Patrick Sobolik was the fastest in the first heat race,
besting Davy Riopelle and a visiting Bret Schmidt. Todd Johnson used his
pole position to his advantage and grabbed the win in the second heat
race over Rod Peterson and Skyler Smith. Bryan LePier won the third heat
race from the pole by holding off Dustin Strand and Aaron Olson who
snuck past Zach Naastad for the third spot. Officials ran a consi taking
the top four cars to the Hawks Hobby Heaven feature event which started
twenty two cars. Bret Schmidt was the driver who advanced the most
positions, starting ninth and finishing a strong third. Aaron Olson put
the heat on Dustin Strand late in the feature but was unable to pass
Strand who ran the high groove for most of the night.
Strand
picked up his first win at River Cities Speedway for 2009 after starting
third. Olson, who won the first week, settled for second with Schmidt
third. Heat winner Sobolik held on to the fourth spot after starting
outside the front row, and Todd Johnson advanced three spots to finish
fifth by passing Rod Peterson and Bryan LePier.
Brandon Burke has stepped up his program some
with some very strong performances to start the year off. The driver won
the first WISSOTA Late Model heat race of the night, besting Corcoran,
Erickson and the rest of the field. Last week’s feature winner, Joey
Pederson won the second heat race with Brad Seng and Howie Schill
finishing second and third. The Feature event seen Burke grab the lead
from the second starting spot, only to lose it to a fast Troy Schill who
started on the pole. Schill led basically half the race until Pederson
found his way past him with eleven laps to go. Pederson started sixth
and crossed the ND Eye Clinic finish line first to sweep the division
for the night and chalk up his second straight win. Schill was able to
hold on to the second finishing spot with Doyle Erickson holding on to
his starting spot and finish third. Ricky Weiss and Howie Schill raced
for a top five spot, but both seemed to slow after the two made contact
low in turns three and four. Howie Schill finished ninth as Weiss slowed
to bring out a caution and was assisted to the pits on the hook. Tom
Corcoran also held on to his starting spot as he finished fourth and
Brad Seng, who started eighth, advanced to collect a top five finish.
Steve Anderson advanced the most positions on the night by starting
twelfth and finishing one spot outside the top five.
Bobby Martin started off his night with a win,
advancing from the sixth starting spot in the first of two NOSA sprint
car heat races. Lee Grosz was just behind him after starting fifth as
outside pole sitter, Lou Kennedy Jr. held on for the third finishing
spot. Chris Burke was the fastest in the second and last heat race.
Burke started third and crossed under the ckeckered flag with Jason
Linnell in tow. Jordan Graham has also stepped up his program and
finished a strong third with Flaten and Dobmeier behind him. Fire &
Safety crews were busy as Roemeling rolled his sprinter which involved
Dan Wiskow.
The twenty-five lap feature event sponsored by
Nissan Honda of Grand Forks went caution free and seen Mark
Dobmeier rise to the top by passing Casey Mack who led the first part of
the race. This was in lap traffic and Mack got held up by a lap car in
the line he chose to run. Dobmeier started tenth on the grid with
Nygaard just inside him in the ninth starting spot. Nygaard also slipped
past Mack to claim the second finishing spot. Mack started third and
finished third. Jordan Graham had one of his best ever runs this night
by finishing fourth with heat winner Bobby Martin fifth. Pole-sitter,
Lou Kennedy Jr. finished just outside the top five with Chris Shirek
advancing ten spots to finish seventh. Grosz, Flaten and Burke all
slipped back a little but still finished with a top ten.
The Outlaws are coming, June 19th
for Father’s Day! WoO Sprints with the NLRA Late Models will be the two
classes that night. The following night the two organizations will
travel south to take to the big half mile at RRVS in West Fargo. But before that we still have one more Premier
Racing Series event June 12th, sponsored by Hugo’s and Big
Jims Tire. Visit rivercitiesspeedway.com for schedule information,
results and photos.
