By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 11, 2017) – River Cities Speedway’s Premier Racing Series hosted five different racing divisions on Friday night with the addition of the NLSA Lightning Sprints. With the 57th running of the Knoxville Nationals, many local NOSA Sprint Car drivers migrated to the “Sprint Car Capital of the World” to either compete or spectate. As a result, no track or series points were up for grabs in the Buffalo Wild Wings Sprint Car division. The front row of the 25-lap feature consisted of the father-son duo of Tom and Blake Egeland. Blake grabbed the lead on the opening lap and paced the field for the first six circuits. Egeland was surpassed by fifth place starter Austin Pierce. Casey Mack was hot on the heels of Pierce and followed him into second. Mack did all he could to catch the two-time River Cities Speedway track champion, but came up short as Pierce claimed his third win of the season by just under two-seconds. Don Shaw made a rare appearance to the Bullring, but the long haul from Ham Lake, Minn. paid off as his night ended in RydellCars.com Victory Lane. Shaw started seventh on the grid for the Performance Auto Late Model main event and rode in that position for the first five laps. Shaw found his groove as the race advanced, however, and he steadily climbed the running order. Shaw grabbed the lead away from Ryan Mikkelson at the halfway point and led the final 10 laps to claim his third career win at River Cities. Troy Schill came home second, followed by Mike Balcaen, who started 12th, Bill Mooney, and Joey Pederson. Lance Schill collected his third consecutive Happy Harry’s Midwest Modified feature win. The Langdon, N.D. driver wheeled his way from the 12th starting position into the top five by lap eight. From there, Schill maneuvered his way into the second spot with six laps to go. With Cole Haugland in his crosshairs, Schill tracked down the leader and made the pass for the lead with four laps remaining. Schill went on to hold of Jason Vandekamp by eight-tenths of a second as the checkers to claim the win. Todd Johnson, Austin Hunter and Jeff Reed, who started 21st, rounded out the top five. Alex Truscinski claimed the NLSA Lightning Sprint feature win. Truscinski grabbed the lead on the opening lap from his third starting position and went on to lead all 15 laps around the high-banked three-tenths mile clay oval. Kelsi Pederson, Alan Truscinski, and Presley Truedson all battled for the second spot early on, but Truedson claimed the position with 10 to go. Truedson tried to keep pace with Truscinski, but Truscinski was just too fast as he went on to score the win. Truedson, Alan Truscinski, and Dexter Dvergsten completed the top five. For the fourth consecutive week, Ryan Johnson picked up the Wells Concrete Street Stock feature win. Johnson had to work for this victory, however, after starting in the 10th position. The Karlstad, Minn. driver moved into the top five by lap three before moving by Adam Burrows for the lead on lap eight of 15. Burrows remained a contender for the remainder of the event, but wasn’t able to get close enough to seriously challenge Johnson on the final lap. Johnson took the win by just under a half second as Burrows, Dan Aberle, Steven Richards, and Dustin Ebensteiner chased him to the checkers. River Cities Speedway will be in action next Friday night, featuring the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and the NLRA Late Models. SUMMARY
