GRAND FORKS, ND (April 29) – The Wells Concrete WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off feature action for the 2016 season as Moorhead, Minnesota’s Travis Robertson and Zach Lee led the field of 25 to the green flag.
Troubles ensued quickly for Robertson as he pulled into the infield on the opening lap with apparent mechanical issues. Meanwhile a handful of other drivers had problems of their own as a five car pileup occurred down the backstretch bringing out the first caution.
Another pair of cautions followed before the race saw a stretch of green flag racing. Kyle Dykhoff showed the way with Steven Richards, Lee, and Bryce Reimer all in tow.
Midway through the race Dykhoff stretched his lead out to a full straightaway as former River Cities track champions, Ryan Flaten and Jim Geringer, made their way into the top five.
Reimer’s solid run took a turn for the worse as he got his #03 machine sideways in turn two and lost seven positions before he regained controlled. As a result, Chase Boen and Steven Richards were left to battle for second position as Dykhoff continued to lead with a comfortable advantage.
In the closing laps, the best battle on the track was for positions two through six as Boen, Geringer, Richards, and Flaten raced hard for the runner-up spot.
As the checkers flew Dykhoff took the win by over three seconds as Richards, Boen, Geringer and Flaten all rounded out the top five.
