Thursday night rains postponed Friday’s action at River Cities Speedway to Sunday evening as the World of Outlaws Case Late Models were in town for their 17th appearance at the high-banked quarter-mile. Thirty-four Super Late Models were checked in, but it was all Brian Shirley as he led all 40 laps of the A-main. Shirley edged out Devin Moran from his front row starting spot on lap two. Moran placed a bid for the lead on lap 10, but Shirley slammed the door.
The battle for second heated up as Morgan and Max McLaughlin raced door to door near the halfway point. Shirley picked up his eighth career World of Outlaws Late Model feature win as Moran and McLaughin rounded out the podium. The championship battle had a shuffle as title contenders Nick Hoffman and Bobby Pierce suffered setbacks. They finished 12th and 19th respectively. Jason Strand was the highest finishing local, coming home 11th. A red hot Trey Hess continued his winning ways in the Big Al's Construction WISSOTA Street Stocks. Hess charged from seventh to take the lead from Weston Ramsrud after a spirited battle on lap 11 of 20. From there, Hess led the remainder of the race while Ramsrud was in hot pursuit. Ramsrud's race took a turn with two to go as his right door panel came off and drew a debris caution. On the restart, a three wide battle for second ensued between Seth Klostreich, John Halvorson and Cole Greseth. Greseth won the battle, as Hess took the checkers unchallenged. The win for Hess was his third of the week after victories at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg on Thursday and Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday. A 10-car pileup slowed the Happy Harry's Midwest Modified feature in the early stages of the 20-lap feature. MaKenna Romuld was the early race leader until Aaron BlackLance moved to her inside in turn two. The two traded paint off corner before Romuld got sideways in turn three. The rest of the pack came storming into the corner as 10 other cars piled up in a mess that completely blocked turn three. Cylen Vargason held the point as the race resumed, but had a fast duo behind him in Austin Hunter and Jory Berg. Hunter made the pass for the lead with 10 to go and went on to hold off Berg in the final circuits to take the win. Racing returns at River Cities this Tuesday night, July 2nd, featuring double features for the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints. WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Mods and Street Stocks are also on the card. SUMMARY WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds: A Feature (20 Laps): 1. 44-Austin Hunter[7]; 2.
