It's Crunch Time! Every Position Counts
(and we're doing the math.)
Race Preview for August 30, 2013
GRAND FORKS, ND - August 30, 2013 ~ My oh my! Where did the time go? It just seems like last week we finally got our first complete night of the season in. The reality of it all is, that was back on May 17th when we battled the rain, long winter, frost. Here we are a week away from the John Seitz Memorial Late Model Invitational. and time to look at points again this week as the season is quickly wrapping up. So it's time to break out the calculators, slide rules and the "what if's", to set up the scenario on how the points titles for 2013 could shake out.
Wissota Street Stock
As we look at the streets, it would be unfair to say that it's anyone's game. Honestly folks, for the points title it mathematically comes down to 6 drivers. If I were a betting person, there are two. Here is how it falls. With a total of 56 points available for a sweep each night.
1 Ryan Johnson #25 420 Leader
2 Jordan Duray #81 405 -15
3 Aaron Blacklance #5B 391 -29
4 Daniel McNamee #29 379 -41
5 Mike Anderson #8X 376 -44
6 Nick Minske #1M 370 -50
Here is the scenario, as it sits Johnson (25) could still finish 5th in his heat, and no worse than 12th in his main to fend off a sweep (winning heat & A-Main) by Justin Duray (81). COMPLETE POINTS
Wissota Midwest Modified
This points battle could also go one of a couple ways. With Tyler Peterson (1TPO) 4 points up on Rich Pavlicek (17R) and Timothy Berg (B4) 36 out, 4th and 5th positions are still mathematically in the hunt.
This here folks is a 2 way race UNLESS someone or both in the top 2 have a terminal failure before the heats. which is not likely, so for the sake of argument, focus again on the top 2. Peterson (1TPO) would hold on to his lead if... Peterson (1TPO) won the heat and finished no worse than 3 positions behind Pavlicek (17R) in the A-Main providing Pavlicek (17R) won his heat and the two were in separate heats.
Pavlicek (17R) could take the lead in one of a couple ways. Pavlicek (17R) wins his heat or finishes 4 spots higher than Peterson (1TPO) in the heat, or... Finishes 5 positions better in the A-Main than Peterson (1TPO) if they won separate heats. COMPLETE POINTS
Wissota Late Models
There isn't too much more that could be said about the Wissota Late Model points chase other than it comes down to 3 drivers and some sort of X factor being this close to the finish of the 2013 season. Putting this simply... The points lead is not out of the reach of Brad Seng (12s) But it will take some unknown factor to weigh in on the outcome with Joey Pederson (7P). 13 points separate the two and the clock is ticking, and it's too close to call. Also... Don't count out Dustin Strand (71S) from 24 points back. This could be a thriller. COMPLETE POINTS
With a couple nights left in The Legendary Bullring points chase for Outlaw Sprints Wade Nygaard (9N) holds a commanding lead. Nygaard hasn't quite sealed the deal with a 33 point lead over Casey Mack (8) and Chris Ranten (27). The real battle is currently at a tie for 2nd place in the points chase in 2013. Still, looking down the points list Chris Shirek (1K), Mitch Mack (92), and Cory Mack (25) all have an outside shot at challenging for the title. At this point we can safely bet something will have to give by September 13th. COMPLETE POINTS
