By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (July 29) - For the first time since June 14, 2013, Austin Hunter topped the full field of 22 Happy Harry's Midwest Modifieds and parked his machine in RydellCars.com Victory Lane. Hunter started on the pole and led all 18 laps, but had his hands full with Jason Strand. The driver of the #E85 charged up from the fifth starting position and harassed Hunter in the final laps, but came up short as Hunter went on to take his second career win at River Cities. Strand and Reise Stenberg, who charged from 18th, rounded out the all-Millenium Chassis podium. Nate Reynolds came from 11th to fourth, while Skyler Smith drove from 22nd to finish fifth. The race began with a three wide battle for the lead with Joey Pederson, Strand, and Brad Seng. Pederson and Seng took the top two positions and battled door to door for the next three circuits before Pederson took sole possession of the point. Strand took second away from Seng on lap six and set his sights on Pederson. In the closing laps, Pederson's five car length lead over Strand evaporated as he encountered lapped traffic. After a few tense moments, Pederson cleared the traffic coming to the white flag, but as he entered turn one he nearly spun out his #7P machine which opened the door for Strand, who took full advantage. Strand took the lead exiting turn two and went on to take the win over Pederson, Seng, Zach Naastad, and Mike Balcaen. GRAND FORKS, ND (July 29) - Twenty-three NOSA Outlaw Sprint Cars made up the starting grid for the 25-lap Buffalo Wild Wings main event. Trent Stengl jumped out to the lead over his front row counterpart, Zach Wilde, and built up a fairly comfortable lead. By lap 10, fifth starting Bobby Martin had reeled in Stengl and made the pass for the lead with Casey Mack in tow. The complexion of the race changed drastically on lap 18 as Martin slid off the banking down the back stretch, while Stengl simultaneously flipped in turn four, triggering the red flag. The end result had Martin restarting at the tail of the field, while Stengl was finished for the evening. Casey Mack inherited the lead and looked to have the race in hand, but a late race caution gave the hard charging Mark Dobmeier the one chance he needed. On the lap 22 restart, Dobmeier dove to the inside of Mack in turn one and completed a nice slide job to take the point. Once out front, Dobmeier cruised to RydellCars.com Victory Lane and picked up his eighth consecutive win at the Bullring, which broke Super Stock driver, Jerry Messner's, win streak record that was set in 2000. The winner of each feature will be granted a starting spot in the AFCO Race of Champions event at the WISSOTA 100 in Huron, SD in September. On the Sprint Car side of tomorrow night's schedule, Mark Dobmeier will be trying to do something no other driver has done in River Cities Speedway history*. Coming in, Dobmeier has won the last seven consecutive NOSA Sprint Car races at the three-tenths mile bullring, which broke his previous Sprint Car record of six wins in a row and ties him with former Super Stock driver, Jerry Messner, for the overall win streak record. If Dobmeier has one thing on his side, it's momentum.
