Dobmeier Tops Wayne Anderson Cup qualifierFor the second time this season, Dustin Strand visited RydellCars.com victory lane twice in the same night, winning both the Northern Late Model Racing Association and Moonshine Mod Tour main event, the latter of which was making its speedway debut.
Strand and Late Model rookie Rusty Kollman brough the field to green to start the 25 lap Cirrus Aircraft NLRA feature. Brad Seng, however, led the opening circuits around the quarter mile. A pileup in turn two eliminated a few competitors, while also setting up the first of many restarts spread throughout the race. Strand chose the outside on the ensuing double file restart, wrestling the lead away from Seng a few laps later. Tyler Peterson followed Strand into second and then moved to the bottom to pull even with the new leader. Peterson and Seng got by Strand in traffic, but a caution erased the newest changes in the lead trio. Strand continued hold off slider attempts by Peterson on a few restarts through the midway point, with Seng taking second back in the following corners. Strand pulled away following the final caution with seven laps remaining, scoring his third Late Model win of the season at the 'Bullring.' Tyler Peterson was second with Brad Seng third, Joey Pederson fourth, and 22nd starter Bryce Sward completing the top five. Later on in the evening, Greenbush Race Park regulars Aaron Blacklance and Aaron Holtan paced the field at the start of the 30-lap Moonshine Mod Tour debut. Holtan led early over Blacklance and Thursday night tour winner in Ada, MN Zach Johnson. Holtan had pulled away by nearly a straightaway in the opening five circuits but started working lapped traffic just nine laps into the race. This allowed Johnson, Blacklance, and eighth starting Strand to close in on Holtan for the lead. A three-wide battle behind Johnson saw Strand move back up top to take the runner-up spot in thick traffic. Strand caught Johnson a few laps later, moving back to the bottom to take the lead. Strand eventually took the top spot for good with ten to go and continued on to win the green-to-checkered affair over Johnson, Peterson, Blacklance, and Holtan. Jack Croaker and Austin Pierce led the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association 30-lap Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier at the start. Croaker was charged with jumping the start, putting rookie Adam Sobolik on the pole. Pierce, fresh off his 50th career win, Pierce led through a bunch of caution which slowed the pace of the race. Pierce held off a hard charging Jade Hastings through four caution periods in the middle part of the event. Dobmeier took advantage of a restart with 6 to go, moving into the second spot. Pierce slid off the top of the backstretch late in the race, and then ran out of fuel. Dobmeier continued on in clean air to score his third win of the year over Nick Omdahl, Jack Croaker, Brendan Mullen, and Laela Eisenschenk. Eisenschenk, in just her fourth appearance at the 'Bullring' put up the second-best finish by a female driver in Outlaw Sprint history at the track. Natalie Sather still holds the record with a third place run on May 30, 2006. In just her second start at River Cities Speedway, Laela Eisenschenk of West Fargo has a run for the history book on Friday against the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.
Her finish of 5th is the third best for a female driver in Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) history following 3rd place runs by Natalie Sather (May 30, 2006 at River Cities Speedway,) and 2014 series Rookie of the Year Amber Balcaen (June 26, 2014 at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg.) And she did it with a 305 against the 410s! Fresh off being crowned the "King of the Wings" last week with the IRA and NOSA Sprints, Mark Dobmeier stayed hot, winning Friday night's Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier. The win was Dobmeier's 179th with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.
Dustin Strand swept the other two feature races. The East Grand Forks, Minnesota driver picked up wins with the NLRA Late Models and the Moonshine Modified Tour, taking home a total of $2,400 on the night. The wins were his 103rd and 104th of his career at River Cities. Pake Doubles-up in Red River Series Debut |
