For the second time this season, Dustin Strand visited RydellCars.com victory lane twice in the same night, winning both the Northern Late Model Racing Association and Moonshine Mod Tour main event, the latter of which was making its speedway debut.

Strand and Late Model rookie Rusty Kollman brough the field to green to start the 25 lap Cirrus Aircraft NLRA feature. Brad Seng, however, led the opening circuits around the quarter mile.
A pileup in turn two eliminated a few competitors, while also setting up the first of many restarts spread throughout the race.

Strand chose the outside on the ensuing double file restart, wrestling the lead away from Seng a few laps later. Tyler Peterson followed Strand into second and then moved to the bottom to pull even with the new leader.

Peterson and Seng got by Strand in traffic, but a caution erased the newest changes in the lead trio. Strand continued hold off slider attempts by Peterson on a few restarts through the midway point, with Seng taking second back in the following corners.

Strand pulled away following the final caution with seven laps remaining, scoring his third Late Model win of the season at the 'Bullring.'

Tyler Peterson was second with Brad Seng third, Joey Pederson fourth, and 22nd starter Bryce Sward completing the top five.

Later on in the evening, Greenbush Race Park regulars Aaron Blacklance and Aaron Holtan paced the field at the start of the 30-lap Moonshine Mod Tour debut.

Holtan led early over Blacklance and Thursday night tour winner in Ada, MN Zach Johnson. Holtan had pulled away by nearly a straightaway in the opening five circuits but started working lapped traffic just nine laps into the race.

This allowed Johnson, Blacklance, and eighth starting Strand to close in on Holtan for the lead. A three-wide battle behind Johnson saw Strand move back up top to take the runner-up spot in thick traffic.

Strand caught Johnson a few laps later, moving back to the bottom to take the lead. Strand eventually took the top spot for good with ten to go and continued on to win the green-to-checkered affair over Johnson, Peterson, Blacklance, and Holtan.

Jack Croaker and Austin Pierce led the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association 30-lap Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier at the start. Croaker was charged with jumping the start, putting rookie Adam Sobolik on the pole.

Pierce, fresh off his 50th career win, Pierce led through a bunch of caution which slowed the pace of the race. Pierce held off a hard charging Jade Hastings through four caution periods in the middle part of the event.

Dobmeier took advantage of a restart with 6 to go, moving into the second spot. Pierce slid off the top of the backstretch late in the race, and then ran out of fuel.

Dobmeier continued on in clean air to score his third win of the year over Nick Omdahl, Jack Croaker, Brendan Mullen, and Laela Eisenschenk.

Eisenschenk, in just her fourth appearance at the 'Bullring' put up the second-best finish by a female driver in Outlaw Sprint history at the track. Natalie Sather still holds the record with a third place run on May 30, 2006.

In just her second start at River Cities Speedway, Laela Eisenschenk of West Fargo has a run for the history book on Friday against the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.

Her finish of 5th is the third best for a female driver in Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) history following 3rd place runs by Natalie Sather (May 30, 2006 at River Cities Speedway,) and 2014 series Rookie of the Year Amber Balcaen (June 26, 2014 at Victory Lane Speedway in Winnipeg.)

And she did it with a 305 against the 410s!

Fresh off being crowned the "King of the Wings" last week with the IRA and NOSA Sprints, Mark Dobmeier stayed hot, winning Friday night's Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier. The win was Dobmeier's 179th with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints.

Dustin Strand swept the other two feature races. The East Grand Forks, Minnesota driver picked up wins with the NLRA Late Models and the Moonshine Modified Tour, taking home a total of $2,400 on the night. The wins were his 103rd and 104th of his career at River Cities.

RIVER CITIES RECAP: DOBMEIER AND PIERCE DEFEND HOME TURF

Pake Doubles-up in Red River Series Debut
Sobolik and Lizakowski split Renegade Mains Truscinski stops Dvergsten's Streak on Night Two

To say it was an action-packed debut of the Bullring's all-Sprint weekend would be an understatement. From the home team defending home turf, to the next generation of a speedway Hall-of-Famer scoring his first pair of wins, to the Lightnings answering a call to stop the top dog of their series…

Last weekend's all-Sprint weekend had all the storylines one could ask for with Austin Pierce rounding out the NOSA vs. IRA weekend by winning his 50th career feature, Andy Pake sweeping the Red River Sprint Series debut here, a former Midwest Mod winner getting his first win over the classes' young phenom that won from 18th just one night prior, or seeing an 8-race win streak snapped in the Lightning Sprints... We saw it all at the Bullring last weekend.

The top two in last season's highly contested point races in both the NOSA series and River Cities points battle's brought night one of the Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings to green last Friday night.

Following a Red for Danny Schlafer on the initial start, Mark Dobmeier led Jade Hastings through lap one of the first 30 lap King of the Wings feature of the double header.

Dobmeier took the lead on the second lap, while Hastings held off Iowa native Josh Schneiderman for second. The lead pair broke away from the rest of the field as Dobmeier caught up to the end of the field shortly thereafter.

Dobmeier started working lapped traffic just five laps into the race, and even built a stronger advantage working through the traffic before a caution flag flew on the ninth lap. The caution was for a slowing Hastings, who slowed on the back stretch.

When the field came back to green, Dobmeier led Schneiderman and NOSA regulars Mullen and Pierce, who eventually won the battle against Mullen for the third spot. Dobmeier again started to work traffic just five five laps into the most recent green flag run before another caution slowed the pace.

Dobmeier continued to lead on the ensuing restart, but it was Pierce that moved in the second past Schneiderman just before the races’ midway point.

Pierce caught up to Dobmeier in lapped traffic as the race came down to ten laps to go. Dobmeier, for the second time in the race, was able to build a stronger lead despite the traffic, until the final caution with five circuits remaining. Dobmeier caught lap traffic just two laps into the final green flag run, allowing Pierce to make one last ditch effort for the victory.

Pierce pulled even in turns three and four when the leaders were shown the white flag, but Dobmeierwas able to hold him off for the win

Pierce was second with Brenham Crouch third, Josh Schneiderman fourth, and Josh Myers, Jr. fifth.

Austin Pierce and Jack Croaker led the field green on the second night of the doubleheader, with Croaker leading the first lap. Croaker caught the rear of the field earlier than the night before, and began working lapped traffic on lap four.

Croaker, just like Dobmeier had the night before, was able to build a better lead than he had in clean air while working lap traffic through eight laps.

Two laps later, Texas native Brenham Crouch was able to reel in and pass Croaker as the lead duo worked traffic to take the lead.

Crouch led the field back to green while Austin Pierce moved past Croaker at the top of turn two on the second green flag lap after the slowdown to take second. From there, Pierce reeled in Crouch in clean air before the lead duo reached lap traffic again. The leader pair again caught the tail end of the field and began working lap traffic with 12 laps to go.

Crouch was spared from having to work lapped traffic by a caution with 11 laps to go, and went on to build another advantage in clean air until he again reached lap traffic just three laps into the next green flag stint.

Pierce got a run off of turn four as the field aimed for the flagstand for six to go, but Pierce was able to beat Crouch back to the start finish line before the last caution of the race.

Under IRA rules, and their ‘split yellow’ format, Pierce was able to hold the lead on the ensuing single file restart. That's all Pierce needed, as he went on to lead the final five laps unchallenged to go on to his 50th career feature win over Crouch, Mullen, Dobmeier, and Croaker.

In other open-wheel action, Felton, Minnesota native Andy Pake was able to keep the family tradition alive, sweeping the Superior Customs Red River Sprint Series debut at the ‘Bullring’.

Pake dominated for his second win of the weekend on night two, but he had to rebound from a spin to win on the opening night, in true Pake form. He became the second Pake in track history to recover from an early race to spin to win a feature at River Cities after his father Brad, a River Cities Hall-of-Fame, came back from an early spin to beat Matt Folstad on August 27, 1999. The elder Pake went on to become the first track champion in River Cities history since the track was renamed earlier that spring.

Red River Series point leader Tye Wilke joined South Dakota hot shoe Koby Workmeister as drivers that finished in the top ten on both nights. Pake (on night one) and Workmeister (on night two) earned Keith Berger Realtor Hard Charger honors.

In Western Renegade Non-Wing Sprint Car action, Adam Sobolik and Jeremy Lizakowski split the weekend set. Sobolik rebounded from brake issues in his heat race on the opening night to charge from 18th to the win over Minnesota Iron-Ranger Ken Hron, and former Winnipeg Super Truck ace Eric Guyot.

Lizakowski led every lap on night two to score his first career sprint car win, and first win at the Bullring since his WISSOTA Midwest Mod triumph on Sept. 1, 2017. Guyot and former Street Stock regular Brandon Palm were second and third.

In the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints, Dexter Dvergsten continued a stranglehold over the division on night one, winning his seventh feature-in-a-row over Alex Truscinski and youngster Matthew Taves.

With a bounty on his head on night two, Alan Truscinski answered the call, ending Dvergsten’s streak, and collecting the added payday over Dvergsten and Dylan Langevin.

Racing action continues this Friday night with the annual running of 'Big Motor Mania' featuring the NOSA Sprints, NLRA Late Models, and Moonshine Mod Tour A-Mods.

Moonshine Mod Tour Debuts Alongside NOSA Sprints & NLRA Late Models

Picture
Racing action continues this Friday night with the annual running of 'Big Motor Mania' which sees the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints and NLRA Late Models joined by A-Modifieds, which this year will appear under the Moonshine Mod Tour banner for the first time at the high-banked quarter-mile 'Bullring'.

The NOSA Sprints will return to the speedway on Friday night on a high, having swept the Wisconsin-based Interstate Racing Association last weekend. Leading the way will be defending series and track champion Mark Dobmeier, who won two of the three races held between River Cities and I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN.

Austin Pierce picked up his 50th career win last Saturday night, becoming just the fourth driver in NOSA history to hit the milestone. Jade Hasting will come into the weekend trailing Dobmeier by just four points in the season standings.

The NLRA Late Models will also hold their first series race since Sunday at the Fair last month. Tyler Peterson, the winner on that evening in June, is coming off a pair of triumphs with the series at South Dakota's Brown County Speedway last weekend.

Dustin Strand will take a three-point lead over Brad Seng into Friday night's competition in the track standings, while two-time and defending series champion Mike Greseth will bring a 44-point advantage in the NLRA standings.

Making their debut at the Bullring will be the newly formed Moonshine Mod Tour, which will hold its third race of the week at the Speedway after appearances at Minnesota's Buffalo River Speedway and Norman County Raceway on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Just like in the Late Model division, Tyler Peterson and Dustin Strand have been the top runners in the Modified class this season at the Bullring, with Strand winning two of the three races held, and Peterson winning the other.

Racing is set to begin at 7:00pm on Friday night.

KING OF THE WINGS HEADLINES ALL SPRINT DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND

7/12/2023

Picture
GRAND FORKS, ND (July 12, 2023) – This Friday night July 14th, and again on Saturday night July 15th, the River Cities Speedway will play host to an all-Sprint Car program featuring the return of the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, who will take on the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association during the King of the Wings event at the Bullring.

The events are scheduled to be the fourth and fifth visits by the Wisconsin / Illinois based 410 Sprint Series, which made its return to Grand Forks last season for the first time since 2004. Austin Pierce, the six-time track champion, defended home turf on night one of last season's event, while the IRA'ers got the last laugh when former series champion Jake Blackhurst went from third to first in the final corners to steal the win, and take the title belt back home with him to Hanna City, Illinois.

Mark Dobmeier will lead the NOSA crew into the battle as the defending series and track champion with his two visits to RydellCars.com victory lane this season, one of which came last Friday night. Jade Hastings will also be ready to defend for the home series after leading 55 of the 60 feature laps run last year.

The IRA will be led by rookie Brenham Crouch of Lubbock, Texas, who leads the current series standings over defending series champion Jordan Goldesberry with longtime series regular Russel Borland in third. Another rookie sits fourth, and he is the most recent IRA winner Travis Arenz, who scored his first ever series win July 1st in Plymouth, WI.

Joining the IRA and NOSA will be the debut of the Superior Customs Red River Sprint Series. The Fargo-area based IMCA RACESaver Sprint series debuted this season and will bring some good up-and-coming talent in their own right.

Among them will be point leader Tye Wilke, the former INEX legends ace, Andy Pake, son of the first River Cities Speedway points champion and speedway hall-of-famer, Brad Pake, and the Eisenschenk sisters, nieces of ten-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz.

Joining the King of the Wings, minus the wings, will be the Western and Northern Renegades, as they make their first appearance at the Bullring this season. Ken Hron and Chris Lewis will lead the Iron Range-based contingent against Dusty Lawson and Myles Tomlinson and the Western crew.

Current NOSA rookie of the year point leader Adam Sobolik has been lights out again with the Western crew in Devils Lake, but it's unknown if he'll run both or just in one series.

The POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints will also be on the card. This will be their fourth appearance at the track thus far this season. Greenbush drivers Dexter Dvergsten and Alex Truscinski have been the head of the class this season.

Dvergsten has two wins at the track this season, and 12 in his career, while Truscinski won the first race for the series here in May, his fifth at the Bullring. Kelsi Pederson will be another driver to look out for, as she has three wins of her own with the series this season.

Racing is set to begin at 7:00pm each night.
