"Fierce" Austin Pierce claims his 1st & 2nd career wins at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, ND (July 11) - Austin Pierce has had an outstanding season so far in 2014 and it got even better on Friday's Mid-Season Track Championship night, presented by PDQ Sanitary Services. Coming into the night, Pierce had not recorded a feature win at River Cities Speedway, but by the time the night was over, he had two to his credit.
In the June 13 make-up feature rookie driver, Jade Hastings, grabbed the early lead and led the first two circuits until Devil Lakes, North Dakota's Tee Young stole the point. Young paced the field until Pierce was able to find away around the black and yellow #4 sprinter. On lap nine, Young's strong run came to an end as he pushed up and over the embankment in turn one, went tumbling down, and came to a rest against the wall outside turns one and two. Young was unharmed in the incident, but his car was not.

Once the race resumed, Pierce took off and led the 16 remaining circuits to pick up his 1st career RCS win.

The second NOSA Sprint Car feature wasn't as easy for Pierce. It came down to a late race battle between Chris Shirek and Pierce, and once again, Pierce came out on top. With five laps to go, Pierce closed in on Shirek and dove to the low side of turns three and four. As they came out of turn four Pierce threw a big, but clean slide job on Shirek and took possession of the race lead. Shirek tried to make a come back in turn one, but was unsuccessful. Pierce cruised through the lapped traffic in the final laps and picked up his second feature win of the night.
