Daryn Pittman holds off Schatz & K. Kinser for career win #50
By Mike Spieker
GRAND FORKS, ND (August 15) - Daryn Pittman of Owassa, OK held off late race charges from Donny Schatz and Kraig Kinser to pick up his 50th career World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car Series win Friday night at River Cities Speedway.
Pittman maneuvered around Hanover, PA driver Logan Schuchart for the lead with three laps to go in the dash to put himself on the pole for the 40 lap, $10,000-to-win A-main.
Pittman survived multiple cautions through the first 10 laps, and then had to hold off a hard charging Kraig Kinser around the halfway point. Kinser was hooked up in the groove right around the bottom of the speedway, while Pittman buried his right rear tire in the thick cushion on the high side. Kinser's best bid for the lead came while the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic as he was able to pull even with Pittman, but the momentum of the Great Clips #9 was too powerful and Pittman drove right back into the lead.
The race came down to a four lap dash to the finish with the current World of Outlaw points leader, Donny Schatz, lining up right behind Pittman on the restart. The race resumed and right away Pittman jumped out to a four car length lead. His lead would only continue to grow from there as the Kasey Kahne Racing driver cruised to his 12th victory of the season 1.247 seconds over Schatz. Cody Darrah brought his Ollie's Bargain Outlets #4 home in third, followed by Kraig Kinser and Paul McMahan.
Mark Dobmeier picked up the KSE Hard Charger award with his drive that took him from 24th to sixth.
