Austin Pierce capitalizes on Dobmeier's mistake to get his 5th RCS win of 2014
By Mike Spieker
GRAND FORKS, ND (August 22) - There are still a few more races left on the NOSA schedule, but Austin Pierce added one more nail to the coffin with his win at River Cities Speedway Friday night, presented by Evergreen Insurance and Leisureland RV.
Polesitter, Mark Dobmeier, jumped out to the early lead, but the red flag haulted the race on lap two for Amber Balcaen as she went for a wild ride in her Ag Water Supply #10. She was OK, but was done for the night.
The race resumed and once again Dobmeier took off with the lead, while Casey Mack and Wade Nygaard battled for second. Dobmeier had amassed nearly a full straightaway lead by lap eight, but was having a hard time keeping the car straight while running his right rear tire on the vicious cushion in turn four. Two laps later, that turn four cushion reached out and bit Dobmeier one more time as the Dammer Trucking #13 took a severe bounce and spun around in front of oncoming traffic, bringing out the caution.
Austin Pierce inherited the lead for the ensuing Evergreen Insurance restart with Chris Shirek right behind him. Within seven laps, Pierce had opened up his own full straightaway lead, but the caution flew for the final time with two laps remaining and erased his huge advantage. Shirek gave Pierce everything he had to try to steal the win, but Pierce proved to be too tough and went on to take his 5th win at RCS of the season.
