GRAND FORKS, ND (July 24) - Eighteen WISSOTA Late Models set the grid for the 20 lap main event. Grand Forks’ very own Dustin Strand and Brad Seng led the field to the green flag.
Strand rode the cushion on lap one to take the lead as Seng drove right along the berm down low. By lap six, Strand had amassed a full straightaway lead over Seng, but all of that was erased two laps later as the yellow flag flew. On the ensuing Evergreen Insurance restart, Seng and Strand raced side by side for the lead. Again Seng went low, while Strand drove up high. This time Strand got too high and lost his momentum, which gave Seng the point. Seng then opened up a comfortable lead, but was slowed in heavy lapped traffic in the closing laps. That allowed Strand to close in, but it wasn’t enough as Seng cruised to the victory.
“I couldn’t keep up with him on the line he was running so I had to choose a different line,” stated Seng after the race. “It just worked out for us.”
