Peterson and Strand Split Late Model Features Week three of racing at the the 'Bullring' is in the books and it was another action packed night with five features contested among the four weekly classes as season 70 of weekly racing action continues on the quarter-mile oval on Grand Forks County's Fairgrounds headlined by Mark Dobmeier's win in the first Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier in the NOSA Outlaw Sprints and Tyler Peterson and Dustin Strand picking up wins in the pair of WISSOTA Late Model features run Friday night. Jade Hastings, sitting just two points back from the top of the Cressman Sanitation 410 Outlaw Sprint Car point standings at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, SD, sat on the pole of Friday's main event alongside five-time track champion Austin Pierce in his first night behind Shane Roemeling's No. 31 Forks Finest Auto Body livery when the green flag started an eventual flag-to-flag 30-lap Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier main event.
Hastings led early but it was Pierce running the high side, stalking Hastings throughout the first five laps of the feature. With Hastings running low, eventually took the lead on lap four and built a straightaway advantage. Hastings reeled Pierce back in, however, as the duo began to work lapped traffic. Pierce was working well in the traffic until they started running side-by-side in front of him. A couple of lapped cars got together on the front stretch on lap six which opened the door for Brendan Mullen to close in on the leaders and go from third to first, leading lap number seven. Around the midway point, eighth starting Mark Dobmeier took third from Austin Pierce and ultimately second from Hastings as traffic remained thick. With five laps remaining, Mullen, caught behind a lap car in turn one, allowed Dobmeier to take the point, becoming the fourth leader of the race and built a straightaway advantage of his own. Dobmeier cruised in the final third of the feature to win the Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier over Mullen, Hastings, Pierce, and tenth starting Gage Pulkrabek. Double Late Model features were also on the Friday night card with 36 Cirrus Aircraft NLRA Late Models signing in for the first series race of the season at the Bullring while the final feature of the night was the make-up feature from the rainout two weeks prior. In the first feature, Cole Schill and Joey Pederson led 25 NLRA Late Models at the drop of the green. Schill led the opening lap and was followed by Pederson and Ryan Corbett. Schill continued to lead following a lap four restart while Ryan Corbett took the second spot. The race continued after a pair of cautions on lap seven. The best battle at that point saw Mike Balcaen, Mike Greseth and eighth starting Tyler Peterson going three wide in a battle for fourth. Peterson won that battle then reeled in Schill and Corbett as the leaders began working lap traffic. In the closing lap, Peterson took advantage of the traffic and took the lead for good with three to go and continued on for his first win of the Bullring in 2024. Ryan Corbett finished second with Schill third, Mike Greseth fourth and Joey Peterson fifth. The fifth and final feature of the night saw Dustin Strand return from a blown engine in his heat race to share the front row with Blake Anderson at the beginning of the 20-lap make-up feature that was delayed by rain two weeks prior. Strand took the point of the start with Ryan Corbett again moving into the runner-up spot. Rookie Tucker Pederson and his father Joey as they battled for third as Strand pulled away from the rest of the field. Brody Troftgruben joined the Pedersons in their battle for the third spot as the leaders worked through thick lapped traffic. Strand put seven lap cars between himself and Corbett in the closing laps to pick up the victory. Troftgruben took second in the closing laps with Corbett, Joey Pederson and twelfth starting Lance Schill completing the top five. Hunter Hougard and Alex Johnson led the field to green in the Happy Harry's Midwest Modified main event. Jamie Dietzler and Nate Raasakka moved into second and third respectively in the opening laps of the race while Hougard built a straightaway advantage through five circuits. Dietzler started reeling in Hougard and a battle for the lead ensued while Jory Berg moved in on Raasakka in a bid for the third spot. Dietzler's car reacted better to the tricky track surface around the midway point and made his move with nine to go, taking the lead on the outside of Hougard. Berg and Austin Hunter also made it past Hougard, completing the top five. Dietzler went on to win the feature, which went green-to-checkered, over Raasakka, Berg, Hunter, and Hoguard. The Big Al's construction Street Stock feature was marred by cautions including two red flags but Josh Barker and John Halverson led the field to Green to start. Barker led through the midway point before Halverson took the lead coming off of turn four. Braden Brauer followed Halverson into second as Barker retired with mechanical woes. As Barker slowed, Brauer took the lead on the final restart with seven to go and brought Seth Klostreich with him into second. Brauer continued on to victory over Klostreich, Halverson, Trey Hess, and Weston Ramsrud. Racing continues next week as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series makes their first of two appearances at the Bullring on Friday night, June 8th. The NLRA Late Models will co-headline racing action which will begin after World of Outlaws qualifying at seven o’clock. 410 SPRINTS - WINGED A Feature 1 (30 Laps): 1. 13JT-Mark Dobmeier[8]; 2. 8H-Jade Hastings[1]; 3. 11M-Brendan Mullen[3]; 4. 31-Austin Pierce[2]; 5.
