GRAND FORKS, ND (July 10) - The WISSOTA Modifieds were 20 cars strong for their first appearance of the year to the Bullring. John Nord and Scott Greer made up the front row for the 20 lap main event.
Greer jumped out to the early lead, but was chased by Nord for the first handful of circuits. Nord slipped back to third when Dustin Strand passed him in turns one and two on lap six. A lap nine caution put Strand right on the rear bumper of Greer as Aaron Olson, Tyler Peterson, and Ward Imrie lined up third through fifth.
One lap was put in the books before another caution came out. The top five remained the same with the exception of Imrie moving up to fourth and putting Peterson back in fifth.
On the ensuing Evergreen Insurance restart, Greer and Strand took off and battled for the point. As they came around to complete lap 12, Strand dove low in turn four, slid up, and took the lead away from Greer; a lead that he would not relinquish.
Strand took the checkers nearly a full second ahead of Greer, who survived multiple threats to finish second, followed by Ward Imrie, Aaron Olson, and Dustin Wahl.
“I started eighth and just kept working my way up to the front,” said Strand after his win. “I got up to Greer and he was pretty fast, but he hooked the hole and I capitalized on it. I almost lost it a few laps later. I hooked the same hole and Olson and Greer both almost got by me, but it all worked out in the end.”
