GRAND FORKS, ND (August 13) – A big night of racing is on the books for River Cities Speedway Friday night with the annual AFCO Race of Champions qualifying night.
The feature winners of the WISSOTA Late Models, Midwest Modifieds, and Street Stocks will receive a golden ticket to be automatically locked into the AFCO Race of Champions event during the WISSOTA 100 at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD in September.
Also joining the night’s grid will be the IMCA Modifieds. A big field of Modifieds are expected as a mini tour is scheduled for this weekend starting Thursday night at Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, Friday at River Cities Speedway, Saturday at Jamestown Speedway, and Sunday at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN. Alex Engelstad picked up the first-ever IMCA Modified victory at RCS early this season during the Greater Grand Forks Fair.
The RCS Premier Racing Series’ point battles continue to be as close as ever. Jim Geringer holds a four point lead over Moorhead, Minnesota’s Travis Robertson in the Wells Concrete Street Stock division.
Last Friday night Happy Harry’s Midwest Mod point leader, Austin Hunter, was involved in an incident which forced him to relinquish the point lead to Ricky Hamel. Hamel leads the Midwest Mods with a three point lead over Hunter and has three wins on the season.
The Late Models continue to have the closest point battle of the four weekly classes. Brad Seng currently has a slim three point advantage over 2013 NLRA champion, Dustin Strand. Seng has parked in RydellCars.com Victory four times in 2015, while Strand has one lone victory.
This Friday night the NOSA Outlaw Sprint Cars have the week off due to the running of the 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville, IA.
Racing kicks off at 7pm.
