The Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were 22 cars strong for their 18 lap main event. Defending track champion, Matt Schow, and Tim Kanten led the charge off of turn four to the green flag.

Just like the Street Stocks, the caution flew on the opening lap as six cars got together and came to rest at the entrance of the back stretch. Noah Metzger and Preston Carr got the worst of it as the two cars made heavy front end contact.

The race resumed with Schow leading Mike Nichols and Austin Hunter. On lap three another big incident occurred as seven cars were collected in turn one. As a result, the race was red flagged for about 15 minutes as the RCS track crew had to separate the cars of Justin Froemming and Dean Eggebraaten. Eggebratten’s right front tire was wedged all the way up inside the left rear wheel well of Froemming. Once the scene was cleared, both drivers rejoined the field.

On the Evergreen Insurance restart, Nichols went for the lead in turn one where he made contact with the left rear of Schow, sending Schow spinning right in front of the field. Luckily everybody was able to avoid contact with the Lucken Motorsports #2S as Nichols was charged for the caution and sent to the tail of the field.

The green flag was displayed once again and Schow had his hands full with Hunter. As the laps clicked away, it was clear that Schow was the class of the field as he pulled out to a one second lead and took the opening night win. Hunter, Todd Johnson, Nate Reynolds, and Brennon Weight rounded out the top five.

The win was Schow’s 10th at River Cities, which ties him with Ryan Schroeder and Tyler Peterson for third on the RCS Midwest Modifieds all-time wins list.
