By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (July 3) - Mitch Mack has been competing in the NOSA Sprint Car class at River Cities Speedway for years, but the young gun from East Grand Forks, MN had never won a feature race coming into Friday night's event, presented by Bobcat of Grand Forks. Mack found the lead on lap two and drove away from the field as he rode on the thick, treacherous cushion.
At the midway point of the race, Mack was mired in dense lapped traffic, which allowed Chris Shirek and Wade Nygaard to close in on him. On lap five, however, Shirek and Nygaard made contact and brought out the red flag with just five laps to go. Both drivers were forced to retire from the event which put Greg Nikitenko and defending series champion, Austin Pierce, right behind Mack for the Evergreen Insurance restart. As the green flag dropped, Mack powered off of turn four and opened up a five car length lead. That's all the driver of the Dahlstrom Motors #92 needed to cruise not only his first River Cities Speedway win, but his first-ever NOSA win as well.
