GRAND FORKS, ND (September 11) - A season high 53 Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were set for six heats, which were won by Rich Pavlicek, Grant Hall, Eric Haugland, Skyler Smith, Jason Halverson, and Mike Nichols.
Thursday night’s winner, Nichols, drew the pole for the A-main and jumped out to the early lead. Nichols went on to lead every lap in what turned out to be a race of attrition. The race saw two separate four car piles, a red flag for Halverson, who rolled on his roof, and a whole lot of bent up tin.
Seventeen-year-old Nichols survived every Evergreen Insurance restart and took the checkers with a five-plus second margin of victory over Ryan Schroeder, who started way back in 19th. Ricky Hamel rounded out the podium after starting 14th and Austin Hunter came home in fourth from 20th. Norman County Raceway’s Sport Mod track champion, Rich Pavlicek, finish fifth with a broken left front tie rod.
