By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (May 22) - Another impressive field of Northern Outlaw Sprints were signed in Friday night at River Cities Speedway.
A 10 car B-main trimmed the field of 30 Sprint Cars to the fastest 24 for the 25 lap main event. Dave Glennon and Mitch Mack started on the front row with Glennon grabbing the early advantage.
Wade Nygaard was on the move early as he moved passed Mack for second on lap two and put a slide job on Glennon for the lead on lap three. Glennon came back after Nygaard with the crossover move and reclaimed the lead down the backstretch. Nygaard went for the same move in turn three and successfully took the lead coming out of turn four. The caution flag flew on lap seven, which erased Nygaard full straightaway lead and put the pack right on his rear nurf bar for the Evergreen Insurance restart. On the restart, Mack went after Glennon for second, but got up in the slick part of the track and spun in front of 20 other competitors. Fortunately, everyone was able to avoid the Jay Holms Valley Auto Sales #92, but Mack was sent to the tail of the field for bringing out the yellow. The race resumed and Casey Mack took off like a rocket. Mack drove by Glennon for second on lap 13, quickly reeled in Nygaard and was harassing him for the lead on lap 14. With 24 cars out on the track, the dust blew off the racing surface and began to take rubber. It seemed as though Mack found the sticky rubber first and drove by Nygaard on the outside to take the lead on lap 17. From there, Mack drove his Big Jim's Tire #8 smooth and straight and picked up his 13th career win at River Cities Speedway. "The car just really came in for me, " said Mack after the win. "At first I didn't think I had anything for the win, but the car just kept getting better and better. My crew won me the race tonight and I just can't thank those guys enough."
