Shane Clanton Wins World of Outlaw FeatureGrand Forks, N.D. (July 16, 2022) - One of the biggest events in speedway history has been completed, and what an event it was. Hosting both the World of Outlaws Late Model series and the Buffalo Wild Wings King of the Wings featuring the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars, Georgia's Shane Clanton and Illinois native Jake Blackhurst came out on top with the biggest wins of the weekend. It all started on Friday night, with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints looking good against their counterparts from the Wisconsin based IRA Sprints. Taking three out of four heats, and quick time in qualifying, the NOSA boys were taking advantage of home turf. On the Late Model side, Shane Clanton and Dennis Erb, Jr., both former event winners at the speedway, were fastest in their qualifying groups. Clanton was joined by Tanner English at the beginning of the 40 lap Case Construction feature. Clanton took the point at the drop of the green, as defending series champion Erb moved in on English for second. Using what is traditionally his favorite, the low line to get the job done, Erb made the pass of English after a ten lap duel, and set his sights on Clanton for the lead. Erb peeked to the inside of Clanton in turn two at the halfway points, but a caution took the momentum away from Erb's lead taking bid. With ten to go, Tennessee's Mike Marlar started ripping the cushion, moving from fifth to third in the final laps, as Clanton held off Erb for his second Bullring victory. Defending IRA champion Jordan Goldesberry and Jade Hastings led the field to the first Wayne Anderson Cup feature of the weekend.
Hastings took the early lead, and was holding off Mark Dobmeier in lapped traffic before a lap 13 caution. Hastings continued to lead on the restart, again holding off Dobmeier and Kennedy in lapped traffic before another caution with 12 to go. Hastings again held the lead despite three more cautions in the waning laps, but those cautions were enough for Austin Pierce to go from fifth to second on the final restart with three to go. A slide job out of turn two coming to two to go saw Pierce make the winning move, as NOSA took four of the top five spots. Dobmeier, Kennedy, and Jake Neuman were those drivers. It was the same start to night two of King of the Wings, with NOSA taking quick time, three-of-four heats, while splitting the dashes with the IRA. This time Hastings was joined by Iowa's Josh Schneiderman on the front row for the second 30 lapper of the weekend, but it was Hastings leading from the drop of the green. Also, Hastings didn't have much trouble with lapped traffic, as he kept a decent advantage over Schneiderman and Jake Blackhurst through the halfway point. The race went caution free until nine to go, putting Kennedy and Blackhurst within striking distance of Hastings. Kennedy took the lead in traffic as the trio came to the white flag, though it looked as if it would be between he and Hastings in the final lap. Blackhurst, however, entering turn three in third place, sailed around the outside of both Hastings and Kennedy to steal the win in the final corners. The POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints were on hand all weekend, with Alex Truscinski besting his father Alan on Friday night, leading all 15 laps for his third career Bullring win. Dexter Dvergsten led all 15 circuits over Alex Truscinski on Saturday night for his 10th River Cities win. Travis Robertson and Minot's Tim Anderson won IMCA sanctioned features in Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks respectively on Saturday night. Robertson's win was his first at the speedway since 2016, when he was one of the top Street Stock drivers, collecting 17 career wins.
