Troftgruben Sweeps Late Model PortionGrand Forks, N.D. (August 26, 2022) - One year and one day following his first win at the Bullring, three-time and defending World of Outlaws series champion Brad Sweet parked in RydellCars.com victory lane for the second time Friday night, while Brody Troftgruben swept Late Model competition at the Outlaw specials, scoring his second victory of the year. June's fast qualifier Sheldon Haudenschild and Spencer Bayston led the Outlaws to the green flag to start the 35 lap main event. Sweet wasted little time moving forward, as the third place starter, and quickest qualifier of the night, moved into second on the second trip around the Bullring. Already in thick lapped traffic seven laps into the race, Sweet had Haudenschild within his reach, with Sweet eventually taking the top spot on lap 11. From there, David Gravel and June winner Carson Macedo moved in on Haudenschild for the second spot. Both passed Haudenschild, and brought the now eleven-time Knoxville Nationals champion, Fargo's Donny Schatz with them before a caution with 20 laps remaining. Sweet didn't let the sight of his championship rival faze him through three restarts through the middle of the race, as Gravel had to fend off a hard charging Donny Schatz to keep second. The race came to a halt due to Austin Pierce rolling off the fourth turn with eleven laps left, but Sweet went unchallenged in the waning laps to win his second feature at the Bullring. Gravel, Macedo, Schatz, and Haudenschild completed the top five. Joey Pederson and Brody Troftgruben brought the Cirrus Aircraft Late Model feature to green to finish the night, but were joined by Greg Friestad and Ryan Corbett in an epic four car battle for the top spot.
Corbett, Pederson, and Troftgruben went three-wide on opposite corners of the track on lap two, with Pederson leading the lap. Pederson jumped the cushion a bit to start lap three, leaving Corbett and Troftgruben to battle for the lead. Pederson regained second as the field worked traffic on lap six. Troftgruben was able to keep a solid lead as Jason Strand moved in on Pederson for second early on in the second half of the race. Troftgruben went unchallenged from there, winning his second feature of the year in front of the big Outlaw crowd. Pederson, Jason Strand, Corbett, and Jesse Teunis completed the top five.
