Pierce, Strand, Schill, and Pederson Also WinnersGrand Forks, N.D. (August 12, 2022) - With drivers from every time-zone, as far apart as San Diego, Calif. and Montreal, Canada, the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint Summer Shootout added to another exciting night of action at the Bullring, as California native Brent Sexton went on to win night two of the series. Austin Pierce went back-to-back in the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints, while Dustin Strand, Lance Schill, and Tucker Pederson all returned to RydellCars.com victory lane. Brent Sexton and Kelsi Pederson brought night two of the POWRi Minn-Kota Lightning Sprint Summer Shootout to green. Sexton led early over Colorado natives Andy Flood and Chris Crowder as Pederson slipped back to fourth. Flood reeled in Sexton and took the lead in lapped traffic on lap eight, leading through the midpoint of the 25 lap event. With ten circuits left on the scoreboard, Crowder stalked Flood in thick lapped traffic, hoping for a sneak to the inside to gain the top spot. Flood kept the lead, as Crowder fell back to fourth before a caution with five to go. Alex Truscinski took the lead the following lap, and was about to take the white flag, when another caution bunched the field back together for another restart. Flood ran out of luck on the restart, as he spun and headed to the rear of the field, moving Alex's dad Alan Truscinski onto the podium. The final restart saw Lakeside, California's Brent Sexton rip the cushion around the outside of Alex Truscinski, taking the lead as the white flag flew, and continued on to victory. Kelsi Pederson moved back up to fourth, while Val Joli, Quebec, Canada racer Eric Sunborg took fourth, with Alan Truscinski finishing fifth. The Summer Shootout continues this weekend at Greenbush Race Park and Buffalo River Speedway. Austin Pierce made short work of the 20 lap Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint feature. Pierce started on the pole, and led every lap, holding off Wade Nygaard on a lap ten restart for his fourth win of 2022.
Blake Egeland, the cause of the lap ten caution, rebounded to finish third ahead of Shane Roemeling and Tom Egeland. For the second straight week, the Cirrus Aircraft Late Model saw two drivers on the front row looking for their first Bullring wins. Brandon Fuller and Ryan Kereluk led the 20 lapper to the initial start, with Fuller taking the point, and Dustin Strand moving into second. Jason Strand had a pass of Kereluk, then a battle with Dustin Strand erased by a lap four caution. On the restart, Dustin Strand went door-to-door to Fuller's inside for a pair of laps, taking the lead on lap five. One lap later, another reset saw Brody Troftgruben join the un-related Strand duo in the top three. The new lead trio remained close through the midway point, as Troftgruben moved into the runner-up spot, looking for win number three on the year. Jason Strand took second back in the closing laps of the race, running door-to-door with Dustin Strand in a last gasp effort for his second win in three weeks. Dustin Strand used lapped traffic as perfect picks, continuing on to his second win of the season. Lance Schill and Joey Pederson were fourth and fifth. Nate Raasakka and Lance Schill brough the Happy Harry's Midwest Mod 20 lapper to green. Schill led through an early caution, and began to open up a straightaway advantage halfway through the race. Schill remained untested in the second half of the race, scoring his sixth win of the year. Raasakka and Reise Stenberg completed the podium, and were followed by Thunder Bay, Ontario runner David Simpson and Bryan Kakela. Tucker Pederson and Daniel Aberle made up the front row in the Big Al's Construction Street Stock feature, which saw nearly half the field eliminated due to accidents before one lap went in the books. Pederson took the race lead and held it through another caution on lap three, holding off Trey Hess and Dan McNamee. Aaron Blacklance eventually replaced McNamee inside the top three, as Pederson built an advantage through the midway point. The podium remained the same despite one final restart with four to go, and puffs of smoke from Pederson's mount, as he went on to win his third feature of the year. McNamee and Halvorson were fourth and fifth.
