Pederson, Schill, Blacklance Win Races; Points TitlesGrand Forks, N.D. (September 2, 2022) - The final week of the regular season brings with it the annual Track Championship races to the Bullring crowning four new champions. When factoring in that the final races before Labor Day also bring the points chases to an end in the WISSOTA classes, that adds up to one exciting night of championship action. Wade Nygaard and Mark Dobmeier led the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints championship to green with Dobmeier taking the early lead. Brendan Mullen soon passed Nygaard for the second spot, as Hastings moved in on Nygaard for the third spot. Dobmeier continued as the leader on a lap five restart, leaving Mullen and Hastings to battle for second. The top three remained the same, and evenly spaced through lapped traffic until the next caution with nine circuits left to complete. Dobmeier arguably had his best restart on the final reset, pulling away for his third win of the year and the track championship. Hastings, Tim Estenson, Mullen, and Knoxville, Iowa's Riley Goodno made up the rest of the top five. Lance Schill, starting on the front row for the second time in the evening had Joey Pederson to his outside as the green flag fell on the Cirrus Aircraft Late Model championship. Pederson headed into the event with the only point lead in question as he had just three markers separating himself and second place Brad Seng.
Schill and Pederson swapped the top spot throughout the opening lap, but Schill started to pull away on lap two as Brody Troftgruben and Pederson waged war for second. Pederson kept second as Seng reeled in Troftgruben for third. A caution on lap eight erased Schill's lead on the rest of the field, but he was able to keep the top spot from turning over to Pederson or Seng on the restart. A three-wide battle with Dustin Strand entering the conversation for the runner-up spot highlighted the final lap of the first half of the race. Strand had just taken second, and was nearly even with Schill when Strand made contact with the turn four wall, ending his bid for the track title. Pederson and Seng had made a three car battle for the lead before another slowdown with eight to go. Seng took second on the restart, pulling even with Schill on the bottom of the quarter-mile. The final caution with two circuits remaining saw Pederson capitalize on a great restart, pulling even with Schill in a bid for the win. Schill beat all challengers back to the line, winning his fourth Late Model feature of the year, and the track and points championships. Mike Mueller and Jeremy Lizakowski led the Northern Renegade Non Wing Sprint 20 lap feature to green, with Mueller leading the opening lap over California native Jori Hughes. The race came to its first caution with six laps left, leaving Mueller to feld off Rob Caho, Jr., and July winner Nick DaRonco. Caho and DaRonco traded sliders following another yellow with four to go, and were challenging for the lead when Brandon Palm flipped on the backstretch with two to go. DaRonco pulled even with Mueller on the restart, but Mueller was able to win by inches over the hard charging DaRonco. Caho, Chris Lewis, and Lucas Logue were third through fifth. Lance Schill and Jory Berg led the 20 lap Happy Harry's Midwest Mod championship main event to start, with Berg taking the early lead. Berg, Schill, and Jamie Dietzler left the rest of the field behind, as the lead trio went nose to tail in the first half of the race. Schill was only racing for the win in this one, having locked up the points title. Looking for his seventh win of the year, Schill pulled even to Berg's outside in the final pair of laps, but it was Jory Berg by inches at the line winning the track championship. Dietzler, Raasakka, and Blacklance completed the top five. Aaron Blacklance and John Halvorson brought the Big Al's Construction Street Stock championship feature to green. With Blacklance racing, just as Schill had, for the feature victory having already secured the points title. Halvorson led the opening lap of the race, as Tucker Pederson Joined the lead duo, setting up a three car battle for the track title. The top three remained the same with Daniel Aberle close in fourth at the time of a caution with 10 laps completed and 10 to go. Pederson did take the lead on the outside in the one lap that was completed between cautions. Pederson continued on from there to win the Track Championship. Trey Hess charged to second ahead of Blacklance, Greg Jose, and Seth Klostreich NOSA SPRINTS A Feature 1 (25 Laps): 1. 13JT-Mark Dobmeier[2]; 2. 8H-Jade Hastings[3]; 3. 14T-Tim Estenson[10]; 4. 11M-Brendan Mullen[4]; 5. 22-Riley Goodno[7]; 6. 0-Nick Omdahl[6]; 7. 9N-Wade Nygaard[1]; 8. 20A-Jordan Adams[12]; 9. 99-Jordan Graham[14]; 10. 31-Shane Roemeling[8]; 11. 14-Tom Egeland[9]; 12. 41-Travis Strandell[13]; 13. 17-Zach Omdahl[16]; 14. 42-Rick Bates[11]; 15.
