River Cities Recap: Macedo Bests Defending Champ Sweet in World of Outlaw Feature

Troftgruben gets second win in Late Models

​GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 3, 2022) – Carson Macedo of Lemoore, California started on the pole, and went on to win his first main event at River Cities Speedway Friday night.

Following wins in his heat race and the dash, Macedo trailed early leader Logan Schuchart early on in the 35-lapper. Macedo made the eventual pass for the win on the 11th circuit in lapped traffic. 
Two laps later, Schuchart's bid for the win ended early as he rolled in turn two on lap 14 restart. Macedo held off a hard charging Brad Sweet following one final restart with four to go to pick up his first win at The Bullring. Fargo's Donny Schatz, along with James McFadden and David Gravel completed the top five.

The track was fast all night long, as shown by Sheldon Haudenschild's lap in Time Trials. His lap of 9.693 seconds was the fastest elapsed time seen at the speedway since former Outlaw champion Jason Meyers set the track record in August of 2009 at 9.269 seconds.

In NLRA Late Model action, Brody Troftgruben collected his second career River Cities victory, and second with the Grand Forks based Late Model series.

Mitch Johnson and Joey Pederson led the field to the green at the start, with Pederson leading the first ten laps. Troftgruben, however, had already made his way to second just two laps into a caution marred beginning to the race.

Troftgruben made the winning pass on the bottom of turn four, and pulled away during the caution free second half of the 25 lap event.

A remarkable 37 car field showed up for the NLRA portion of the night.
