Brad Seng Cruises to WISSOTA Late Model Victory at River Cities Speedway
By Mike Spieker
GRAND FORKS, ND (May 1) - The WISSOTA Late Model feature was 16 cars strong and set for 20 laps around the Bullring. Steve Anderson and NLRA Rookie of the Year candidate, Robert Bladow, sat on the front row. Anderson got the jump at the green flag on the low side of the speedway, while Bladow tried to make it work up high on the cushion. The man on the move, however, was the defending RCS track champion, Brad Seng.
Seng, who started sixth, sliced through the field and moved up to second by lap six and slid by Anderson for the lead on the following lap. Seng then cruised out to a healthy lead, but the caution flag flew on lap 15 and put Dustin Strand right on his tail for the restart. Strand was all over Seng when the race resumed and raced right up to his quarter panel in turns one and two with two laps to go.
Despite Strand's best attempt, Seng was able to hold off Strand to take the opening night victory. Joey Pederson raced from 12th to round out the podium, while Zach Naastad and Steve Anderson finished fourth and fifth.
"When you start sixth, you drive where they're not," said Seng after the win. "It worked out and I just tried to run consistent laps after that."
"You can't win them all unless you win the first one," concluded Seng with a laugh.
Seng will try to go two-for-two next Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Hot Laps start at 6:30 with racing at 7:00.
