By Mike Spieker GRAND FORKS, ND (June 16) - This Friday night the nation's premier dirt track racing touring series invades one of the most action-packed race tracks in the country. What does this result in? How about 24 900+ horsepower engines on a little 3/10 mile bullring, speeds in excess of 100mph, drivers throwing those big right rear tires up on the cushion, just inches away from triumph or tragedy, with only the bravest being deemed the victor. What is it? It's the "Greatest Show on Dirt", the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series, and they come to River Cities Speedway this Friday night, June 19. ![]()
Six-time and defending series champion, Donny Schatz, comes home to North Dakota with overwhelming momentum. The current WoO point leader has won the previous two events at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA and Huset's Speedway in Brandon, SD, but those are only a fraction of the staggering 13 victories that he has already amassed thus far in 2015.
Last year, Schatz and Kasey Kahne Racing driver, Daryn Pittman, spilt RCS race wins with one a piece. Pittman, who admittedly said he traditionally struggles at the Bullring, survived a hard fought battle with Schatz and prevailed for his first career RCS victory. With the level of competition the Outlaws are bringing to River Cities Speedway this year, the win could go to any one of a number of drivers, and may not be determined until the final corner of the last lap; like what we've seen a number of times throughout the years at RCS. Joining the Outlaws Friday night will be the NLRA Late Models. Even though they are considered a support class, the NLRA Late Models never fail to display some of the top talent the upper Midwest has to offer for the enormous crowd that gathers when the Outlaws are in town.
