Shirek wins first A-Main ever at River Cities Speedway Nygaard wins First A-Main of 2013 in Dual Sprint Mains NOSA Sprint Recap of Aug. 2, 2013 GRAND FORKS - When a dominant team like that of Lunstra Motorsports' #13 of Mark Dobmeier is racing elsewhere, anything can happen and usually does. In the case of Chris Shirek, A life-long dream came true on Friday with Shirek starting on the pole for A-main #1 and going flag to flag in the lead and not looking back. After 13 years of racing at The Bullring, Shirek delivered. Shirek commented after the race that Austin Pierce made him earn the win, and the track was challenging. “Not only is the track here tough, but you have one of the best drivers in the country (Dobmeier) racing against you every week,” said Shirek. The top 5 in A-Main #1 were 1) 1k Chris Shirek, 2) 2a Austin Pierce, 3) 27 Chris Ranten, 4) 9n Wade Nygaard, 5) 25 Cory Mack. A-Main #2 of the night provided a handful of surprises. With the #31 Grand Forks Auto Body sponsored car of Shane Roemling on the pole, the 10 TRB of Bob Martin on the outside and Mitch & Cory Mack in the 2nd row. Things were only heating up when Austin Pierce spins on the start tagging the rear of the field.
Lap 2: Mitch Mack and Bob Martin bring the race for the lead 3 wide off of corner #2 with Roemling. Mack solidifies the lead with a clean pass on Roemling off of Corner 4 on the outside. With the field reset with 15 to go after #12 of Rick Bates spinning twice, and #99 Graham also bringing out the yellow flag the lineup was single file with the 92 of Mack on the point, followed by the 27 of Ranten, 9n Nygaard, 31 Roemling, and 8 of Casey Mack. With 4 laps to go, one would start to think with 92 Mitch Mack having a 1.3 second lead on the field that he had it sewn up. Not the case this night, when Mack drove hard off of turn 4, he lost his brakes and and did a 360 degree spin and resumed on the power to get back in the race.
