GRAND FORKS, ND (June 5) - A full field of 24 Wells Concrete Street Stocks made up the starting grid for the 15 lap feature. Rory Opp and Ryan Johnson led the field to the green flag. ![]()
Opp took the early advantage on a freshly farmed racing surface that threw the drivers a curveball. Ryan Johnson slid and skated his way around the track until he found his groove up on the banking and reeled in Opp for the lead. Johnson drove past Opp on the high side, but Opp wasn’t finished yet. The Hannaford, ND driver chased down Johnson and regained the lead with a pass on the low side of turn one.
A late race restart set up a dramatic finish as Johnson and Jim Geringer lined up behind Opp. At the drop of the green, Geringer peaked under Johnson for second, but Johnson powered off the corner and made a bid for the lead. Johnson and Opp were side by side as they were given the white flag as Geringer, lagging back, waiting to strike. Johnson cleared Opp for the lead down the back chute while Geringer followed him and moved into second. Geringer threw his SK Reality #12 hard into turn three for the win, but Johnson, the 2013 RCS Street Stock track champion, had the momentum up top and took the win. Opp came home third while Doug VanMill and Rich Schulz rounded out the top five. Johnson’s win was his 11th career RCS victory, which ties him with Ryan Flaten and Jordan Duray for 4th on the all-time RCS Street Stock wins list.
